Wandering Feather and Class

Wandering Feather and Class

The beginnings of our service exchange with the Salish and Kootenai in Montana begins with training, orientation and learning.  Our first series of lectures were by Dr. Chris Hummer, professor of anthropology at Eastern University.  The graduate education portion of this trip is in partnership with Eastern University and part of the MA in Urban Studies Program, Arts in Transformation Concentration.

BuildaBridge has engaged artists in service to others since 1997.  Within that time, we have developed a standardized philosophy for working with children based on art therapy and arts-integrated education.  To hear the basic lecture on HOPE, by Dr. Nix-Early, click here: Aspects of Hope.

Our second day of training was with Wandering Feather who has both Native American and African-American heritage.  He spent the evening leading the group in a jewelry making class.  It was more…with wisdom regarding economic development, and practical skill building, the group left with a piece in hand.  Wandering Feather is a professional artist who has also taught art to kids in school for ten years.
